Behind every great travel guidance moment, there’s always a human story.
Erin’s #solotravel story began with her opportunity to go to Bucharest and represent the company where she is the brand relationships manager - women’s travel membership community Wanderful – at a locally organized volunteer event for travel influencers.
It just so happened Erin and her family already were scheduled to be in Europe, on a pre-planned trip that ended May 11. After seeing a posting about an event in Bucharest in a blogger Facebook group, she sent in an application on behalf of Wanderful and received an invitation to visit Bucharest from a group of dedicated volunteer ambassadors for the city.
The event was organized by local hostel owners and travel blogger couple Tudor and Anda Maxim. This husband and wife team, along with a large team of dedicated travel professionals, were behind the hosting of an event and conference called #ExperienceBucharest starting May 12. “The stars just aligned. I knew I had to go and represent Wanderful,” says Erin. “And as a representative of a company that serves solo female travelers, I also knew I wanted to stay beyond the conference and really get to know the city.”
The result of Erin’s two-week stay in Romania – mostly based in its overlooked yet charming capital city Bucharest – included a multi-step Guidrr mobile-first travel guide that showcases how locals enjoy the city, and helps a first-time tourist to discover its insider tips for food, experiences and authentic travel.
With Wanderful’s City Guide to Bucharest, travelers can download and learn from Erin’s immersive stay to build their own visit with spots to imbibe, chow down and tour around (with Erin making some guest appearances in the guide photos). “Our community has been asking us for travel guidance,” says Erin. “It was so much fun to put together this experience, and use it as a way to go beyond our blog and in-person events to provide really useful tips to women traveling solo or in groups to this part of Europe.”
Her visit was full of wonderful surprises about this under-the-radar destination that may be perfect for a solo female traveler in Europe. “I felt comfortable and safe, and so inspired by the parks, the walks, the coffee - and the food!” Erin credits the extra time she spent trying to really understand the city as important. “I wanted to really get to know it by walking its downtown areas and enjoying all the experiences.”
We’re big fans of the Wanderful team and their inspiring story at Guidrr. As more of us seek to travel more often, and to find new places, being a part of a traveler community - particularly one focused on the travel experiences of women - can be a huge help. Wanderful’s membership community includes a homesharing network, worldwide chapters, and women-to-women support; Wanderful also organizes the highly-influential travel blogging conference, the Women in Travel Summit. Since Guidrr, too, is a female-founded and female-run travel company – we’re in good company with our Wanderful friends.

Thanks for a great, inspiring guide Erin (Bucharest is SO on our bucket list now) - and welcome to the creator community, Wanderful!
(ps: Erin’s guide was also featured in her musings about the city on the Wanderful blog; you can read her post about her visit here.)
